How to use project merge in p:IGI+ v3
Running Project merge in p:IGI+ ensures that all sites, boreholes and samples are merged consistently in one workflow action.
Project merge comprises three stages:
-
Site merge
-
Borehole merge
-
Sample merge
p:IGI+ import includes an integrated automatic site and borehole merge, in which incoming information attempts to merge into existing sites and boreholes where appropriate. However it is recommended that Project merge is undertaken post-import when:
-
new data are being added to a project
-
a project is being migrated into v3 from a previous version and the previous version of the project was not fully merged
It is possible to merge only sites or samples as separate actions by using Site merge or Sample merge rather than the full Project merge.
-
Site merge may be more appropriate when a project is being migrated into v3 from a previous version and the previous version was fully merged.
-
Sample merge may be more appropriate when samples are being added to a project, and those samples are assigned to existing, previously merged sites.
For further instructions, see:
How to migrate a p:IGI+ v2 project to p:IGI+ v3.0
When migrating a file into v3.0 from a previous version, it is recommended that merge is undertaken before running the Data QC tool.
Project merge: merging sites, boreholes and samples
Step 1: Open project merge
-
Select Data
Project merge…

Step 2: Select criteria for site merge
-
Choose properties to use for the site merge criteria by either:
a. Selecting properties from the Available Properties list, or
b. Searching in Search for properties box and adding them to the selection.
Note: Default site merge criteria are provided. Remove them using:
-
<Remove Selected
-
<<Remove All
Only site properties can be selected at this stage.
-
Optional: Select Set as default to use these criteria for any future site merges.
-
Optional: Choose Merge within a sample set if you wish to merge against a filtered sub-set of the project sites.
-
Select Merge sites.

Step 3: Resolve conflicts for site merge
The Site merge stage 2 of 6 window displays proposed site groupings.
-
Proposed candidate sites appear on the left.
-
Details for each proposed site grouping appears on the right once selected.
Status icons beside each candidate site indicate how the sites will be grouped. Hover over the summary icons at the top for tool tips.
If many conflicts occur, consider refining the merge criteria (bottom left button) .

-
Resolve conflicts using one, or a combination, of the following methods:
Option 1: Resolve conflicts manually
a. Select a candidate site with conflicts.
b. Select Next conflict >>.
c. Choose the correct value using the tick boxes.

Option 2: Auto-resolve conflicts
a. Select Auto-resolve conflicts…
b. Choose the required conflict resolution
c. Select Apply
Note: Auto-resolution applies to all conflicts, not just the selected item. Use Reset auto-resolved conflicts to undo these changes.

-
After resolving all conflicts, select Confirm site merge.

Step 4: Select criteria for borehole merge
-
In Borehole merge criteria selection stage 3 of 6, select merge criteria in the same way as for site merge (site and borehole group properties are available this time).
-
Select Merge boreholes.

Step 5: Resolve borehole merge conflicts
-
Resolve conflicts using the same process as in the site merge stage.
-
After resolving all conflicts, select Confirm borehole merge.

Step 6: Select criteria for sample merge
-
In Sample merge criteria selection stage 5 of 6, choose sample merge criteria (properties from the entire property model are now available). Aim for a combination of properties that have good coverage across the samples, and when combined separate out unique samples..
-
Select Merge samples.

Step 7: Resolve conflicts for sample merge
-
In the Sample merge confirmation stage 6 of 6, resolve conflicts using the same methods as for site and borehole merge.
-
If all conflicts are resolved satisfactorily, you may select Create post merge sample sets.
If selected, a folder named Post merge sample sets at dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm is created in the artefact manager upon confirmation of sample merge.
The folder contains the following static sample sets:
-
Samples that merged at dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm,
-
Single samples that merged at dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm,
-
Samples that merged with partial criteria at dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm, and
-
Single sample that merged with partial criteria at dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm
Note: If all conflicts are not resolved, an additional static sample set named Samples with conflicts at dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm will be created.
-
Click Confirm sample merge.

Optional: To review data before committing to the merges:
-
Select Create merge diagnostics and cancel without merging.
This will:
-
Cancel the merge
-
Close the merge window
-
Create a folder named Merge diagnostics at dd/mm/yyyy hh/mm
This folder contains:
-
A page displaying samples with merge conflicts
-
Four sample sets identical to those created by Create post merge sample sets
These can be used to review the data within the project before running the merge again.

Project merge complete
The project merge is considered complete once the site, borehole and sample merges have been confirmed.
