Defining your query
While spatial selection allows you to identify data based upon its location you may also want to add other criteria to select data. These criteria can be used in combination with spatial selection or can be completely independent of it. To filter data
- Add an expression to filter the data you are interested in.
- Query Metis
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have the data you want.
- Export data.
Let’s create a simple expression, first we need to click the Add criterion button which will provide a list of available criteria; select to add a Measurement criterion. This will expand the criteria panel. Next type “name” into the property box:
Discover will find all the properties in the system that match this search term, select Well Name. Discover will now find all the distinct well names in Metis allowing you select as many or as few as you like, for the moment select a single well name. By clicking the query button, Discover will filter all the samples that are present within that well, highlight it’s position on the map and display a summary of the sample information in the data table.
Discover utilises the full IGI property model, to find more information about our property model and some of the key concepts underpinning it click here.
To filter the data further we can use Discover to add additional expression elements. Selecting the add expression element button again will add a second expression element “B” to the filter. This time type “tmax” into the property box:
In this example, T-max can be measured across a number of analyses, if you know you are only interested in one particular analysis you can select it directly from the property search results. A user can also restrict the properties to an analysis by using the analysis group box. However, it’s likely that you may not want to restrict your results to a particular analysis and in this case you can use the .Any analysis group. As the name implies, this will apply a filter to a T-max value measured by any analysis. Select the T-max.Any property.
For numeric properties Discover allows a range of data to be filtered, change the criteria to return values less than 435.
By clicking query again, Discover will find samples that are within the original well and below the defined value of T-max. It’s also possible to change the expression to include other logical operators, for example by changing the expression to A or B all samples that fulfil either criteria are included in the filter.
In this way, it is possible to build complex expressions based upon any measured property in the system that filter all the data in the system to very specific sample criteria.
